History:

  • Mid-March the Caymans introduced 14-day self isolation on arrival and began banning arrivals from certain countries (Schengen, China, Iran etc.).
  • Sunday 22 March, borders closed and the country went into lockdown.
  • On 11 May, the shelter at home order ended.
  • While sea borders were closed, private vessels are permitted to stop in case of emergency for fuel and supplies but crew were not allowed to leave the vessel.
  • On October 1, 2020, the Cayman Islands commenced the phased opening of its international borders.
  • In the initial phase, the reopening is aimed at Caymanians, permanent residents, work-permit holders, people who own property and those planning to spend an extended amount of time on the island.
  • Leisure travel is not allowed in this phase.
  • At the start of 2021, sea borders opened on a pre-application/approval basis.
  • In September 2021, only vaccinated non-residents were permitted to enter.
  • International flights resumed on 20 November (with lateral flow tests a requirement on days 2, 5 and 10) and no more quarantine for many vaccinated visitors.
  • On 21 March, 2022, the Caymans moved into Phase 6 of the reopening plan.
  • All incoming travelers had to be vaccinated.
  • August 2022 all restrictions were lifted.
