Description:
Arrecife has been the capital of Lanzarote since 1852. The city owes its name to the rock reef ('Arrecife' is Spanish for 'reef') which covers the beach located in the city.
There are three ports at Arrecife - the town that serves as the island's capital - of which only one is for yachts. Marina Lanzarote, operated by Puerto Calero marina management takes up the majority of space within Puerto Naos (the old fishing harbour).
The Puerto de los Marmoles is a commercial and passenger port and mooring at the breakwater in the Puerto de Arrecife is prohibited. It is possible to anchor at the entrance, just behind the breakwater but this is considered risky due to the submerged chains and moorings of the fishing boats.
Entrance Notes and Cautions:
A current listing of navigational aids for Arrecife can be found on the Spanish Navy website. (Note: the list is in Spanish).
Position:
28° 57'41"N, 13° 32'29" W (Harbor Entrance).
