La Restinga - General Info

Description:

La Restinga port is located on the southern tip of El Hierro.

This port is open to visiting yachts. Scientists now believe that the underwater volcano, which erupted 2km south of La Restinga in 2012, cannot cause any harm because the magma reservoir is not great enough to break through.

Entrance Notes & Cautions:

A nearby creek creates swell close to the harbor, so it is advisable not to make for the end of the breakwater until it bears due north.

The south coast of El Hierro, west of La Restinga, has been declared a nature reserve. Anchoring and diving are now prohibited in this protected area.

You must pre-book a berth via the Puerto Canarios website, or download their App to do the same. If you don’t pre-book, you won’t officially be allowed into the harbor. Yachts have already been turned away here (2022) for not booking in advance.

El Hierro's marine reserve is right next to the fishing harbor of La Restinga and is full of steep drop-offs down to 300 meters, underwater cliffs, shelves, sandy platforms, and caves. It's one of the world's dream dive sites with more than ten top-class dives, all full of volcanic features and marine life.
