British Virgin Islands - Documents

Jun 13, 2025

BVI Necessary Documents:

Proof of pre-registration on SailClear - see Clearance.

It is recommended to have both the originals and copies of each of the following:

  • The original of your vessel documentation — with the current stamp — or state registration.
  • Passports for the entire crew with a minimum of six months validity.
  • Crew List.
  • Standard BVI Customs and Immigration papers (available on arrival), including Embarkation / Disembarkation Cards (see note below).
  • If your vessel is being stored in a boatyard for hurricane season, a letter or contract from the yard.
  • Fishing License (if required). See the Fees section.

Note: The BVI plans to introduce a new Online Embarkation/Disembarkation (ED) Card System to replace the paper arrival / departure cards that travelers file when clearing in and out. The system entered an introductory pilot phase on 1 October 2024 and is scheduled to become mandatory on 1 January 2025. Initial expectations are that the implementation will focus on airports and ferries, however it could also soon be mandatory for yacht arrivals. For more information see the BVI Government Press Release and the BVI Online ED Card Portal.
