Bosnia and Herzegovina Health for Visitors

Medical and dental facilities outside Sarajevo and major towns are limited.

Make sure to get travel insurance that includes coverage for medical evacuation and hospital stays. The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) does not cover Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Recommended Vaccinations

Be sure that your routine vaccinations are up-to-date before travelling.

Vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B, Measles (Infants 6 to 11 months old traveling internationally should get 1 dose of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine before travel) and Tick-borne encephalitis are also recommended.

For a full list of recommended vaccinations and medicines for Bosnia and Herzegovina, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention web page.

Food and Water Concerns

Tap water is drinkable in most parts of the country. A "hajrli česme" or "safe travel fountains" is situated in some parts of the country which offers drinkable water from the source of a mountain.

Prescription Drugs

There are several pharmacies or apoteka (usually marked with a green cross) across Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prescriptions issued in the United Kingdom may not be recognize there, therefore you should take your existing prescription to a local doctor who can issue a valid prescription for use while in the country.
