The International dialling code for Australia is +61.

There are three mobile networks in Australia:  Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.  All three networks operate their own network infrastructure, independently of each other.

Cell phone coverage and service in Australia is good and uses the GSM service in order to provide mobile phone users with cellular capability.

Telstra's network is the largest in the country and provides excellent coverage, even in the most remote parts of the country. Reported to support high-quality skype almost anywhere. There are various plans available for internet access through the cellular phone system. Telstra does require a number of proofs of identity and a credit check.

Optus, Telstra and Vodafone all have SIM only plans.  If you’re travelling to remote areas, check with the network provider about coverage.  Cruisers report that Telstra has much better coverage if sailing the south coast of Australia.

Many fast food restaurants throughout Australia provide free WiFi.
