Marine Park:
Anguillian waters are all protected as a national park.
There are several areas where anchoring is prohibited or severely restricted. These include Little Bay, Dog Island, Prickly Pear, Sandy Island, and Shoal Bay-Island Harbour. Sombrero Island, a land-sea reserve with abundant marine life and historical significance on land, likewise, forbids anchoring.
The Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources has set up and keeps up mooring fields in Little Bay, Sandy Island and Prickly Pear, to make it easier for people to comply with this law.
Note: All Marine Park moorings are only available during the day (from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm daily). Use of the mooring buoys is prohibited for any vessel longer than 55 feet. A user fee is charged, together with the cruising permit.
For more information, see here.
The rules for the Marine Park are:
Visitors are prohibited from spearfishing and the collection of coral and shellfish.
There are also restrictions on waste disposal for which there is a charge.
Any person who violates one of these terms is subject to a fine of EC$5,000.00 and/or six months imprisonment.
