Arriving in American Samoa with a Pet onboard

Dogs and cats from Hawaii, New Zealand, and Australia are allowed to be imported into American Samoa, subject to changing conditions set by the American Samoa Department of Agriculture.

The Department of Agriculture allows the importation of domestic dogs and cats from the continental United States, Guam, and Pacific Island Trust Territories into American Samoa, with mandatory quarantine in Hawaii for local and foreign disease control issues.

It may be possible to obtain permission to keep your animal quarantined aboard with approval from the Department of Agriculture and by paying a bond. See Regulation 24, Chapter 3, Section 19 and contact the Department of Agriculture for more details.

To import domestic animals from any location, importers must obtain a permit from the Department of Agriculture and present it to the chief quarantine officer at the port of entry.

Dogs and cats imported from anywhere must have a health certificate from a veterinary officer stating they received a prophylactic anti-rabies vaccine 30 days before arrival at the port of entry.

All domestic dogs and cats must be free of communicable diseases when examined at the port of entry.
