Albania - Immigration

Mar 03, 2024

Although Albania is part of Europe, it is not currently a Schengen-zone country.

Immigration Procedure:

Entering with a passport is required.

There are a number of visa-exempt countries and nationals that qualify for visa-free entry. These visitors can stay up to 90 days in 180 days and include foreign citizens with a Schengen visa, USA and UK citizens or visitors holding a visa for either of these countries, foreign citizens that qualify for a visa-free visit to Schengen.

See the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for a list of nationals who can enter Albania without a visa (there is a link to a useful table for all nationalities).

Non-EU cruisers report that getting a visa for a stay of longer than 90 days is extremely complicated and pretty much impossible unless you are retired and paying your pension into an Albanian bank, or you work in the country (see comments via the speech bubble icon).

Visa Process:

  • If you do require a visa, the Albanian government have now developed an E-Visa portal to pre-screen travelers wishing to visit Albania.
  • See https://e-visa.al/apply for more details.
  • Short-term and long-term visas are available.
