Diane Grieman and Brad Harley announced that as of February 7th, 2024, the Amigo Net in Mexico has been retired.
“We have been experiencing a consistent reduction in interest and participation over the past several years and keeping it going does not seem to be worth the time and effort,” they said.
“While saddened by this decision, competing communication methods and global internet availability are obviously contributing to the reduction in interest in SSB.
“As an alternative, the Sonrisa HAM net does have a solid community of participation, covers the same area, and is available for any SSB to listen. It has become easier to get a HAM license with daily remote tests available should anyone wish to participate.
“Should the community wish to revive the Amigo Net, even temporarily, and we have enough participants, we would certainly be interested in having that discussion.”
