Monuments of interest are concentrated in the old quarter of Velez-Malaga. Worthy of mention for their importance is the Arabic fortress, the church of Encarnacion and the convents of the Carmelites and San Francisco. Outstanding fiestas are Carnival and Holy Week. A great variety of fairs and open-air dances are held in summer, including the festivities of Torre del Mar in June and the San Miguel Fair in September.
