Travemunde is the port for Lubeck, which is 17 kms (11 miles) further upstream. Lubeck is a world heritage site and definitely worth visiting. The old city is a mass of historic buildings and attractive lanes.
Travemunde is a seaside resort as well as a large ferry port.
